Deep Vein Thrombosis
Abstract
INTRODUCTION
The last few years have heralded a rapid progression in our understanding of spectrum of disease known as venous thrombo-embolism. A number of historical references provide a vivid context for the recent evolution in the medical approach to this problem. In the 1800’s Virchow described a classical triad of causative factors of venous thrombosis, including a state of hypercoagubility. Until the 1900,s very few conditions known to cause increased coagubility had been defined. With in the complex coagulation system there are numerous other protein abnormalities: deficiencies or excess, which might be expected to cause thrombophilia [1].
