POST OPERATIVE ENTEROCOCCUS FAECALIS ENDOPHTHALMITIS

devastating and sight-threatening complications of cataract surgery. Although its incidence is low but the morbidity is significant and return of sight is uncertain. The most common causative organisms are coagulase-negative Staphylococci (70%), Staphylococcus aureus (9.9%), Streptococcus species (9.0%) and Gram-negative organisms (6%)1. It rarely is caused by fungal and Enterococcal species (2-4%)1. Postoperative Enterococcal endophthalmitis is relatively rare but associated with poor prognosis2. If not properly treated, a risk of complete loss of vision exists even in best hands. Here we present a case of post operative Enterococcal endophthalmitis which was managed promptly and useful vision of the patient was saved.
