ENDODONTIC MANAGEMENT OF OROCUTANEOUS SINUS - A CASE REPORT

Abstract

A facial cutaneous sinus of dental origin is
a relatively uncommon condition; in the
absence of the specific dental symptoms it is
mostly misdiagnosed. Tidwell et al in 1997
reported a case which took over 15 years to
recognize a dental origin1. Such patients seeks
treatment from a general physician or surgeon
instead of a dental surgeon and are subjected to
multiple remedies like surgical excisions,
cauterization, multiple antibiotic regimens and
even radiotherapy with ultimate recurrence
because the primary dental cause is frequently
overlooked. Misdiagnosis leads to the
destructive treatment of local cutaneous lesion,
this may produce unsightly scar, which
produces aesthetic problems and is very
stressful for the patient2.
