Abstract

Proximal Femoral Focal Deficiency (PFFD) is a rare condition of lower limb shortening whereby the proximal femur is partially absent. Its clinical appearances are not subtle and are easily recognizable. The leg length is variable depending upon the severity of the condition. The condition is usually unilateral but can affect both the lower limbs. The plain radiographic appearances are diagnostic. A 4 month old female child presented to the pediatric out patient department with right leg length shortening which was present since birth. On examination, the right lower limb was shortened with bulbous proximal right thigh quickly tapering to the knee. The limb was slightly externally rotated. The right knee examination revealed instability in antero-posterior plane. Remainder of the skeletal system was unremarkable. Plain radiographic examination of pelvis including both the femora was carried out.
